Thirteen of the 19 state universities in Kansas and Missouri rank among the top 250 public colleges in America, including Truman State University (No. 40), The University of Missouri (No. 45) and The University of Kansas (No. 74). No. 2 Meat City in America
According to a ranking by CNN, Kansas City is the No. 2 meat city in America. The No. 1 spot was given to New York City. The ranking was determined by meat consumption per capita, number of steakhouses and number of meat cooking events. CNN, October 2014

Kansas City was ranked third overall on the list of America’s Favorite Cities by Travel and Leisure. Business Insider recently ranked Kansas City, Missouri’s 64113 ZIP code as the No.10 Best ZIP Code in America. Areas were measured by median household income, average commute time, median rent/house worth and high school graduation rate. Business Insider, October 2014

KC Among Top 50 Metros for Exports
The Kansas City metro ranked 41st in the nation for exports by area companies, calculating to $8 billion in exported merchandise in 2013. The most exported goods included crops, transportation equipment and chemicals.

In the 10th annual “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report,” conducted by Allstate Insurance Company, Kansas City, Kansas; Olathe, Kansas; and Kansas City, Missouri; ranked in the top 15 metros with the best drivers. Allstate, Aug. 2014

23 KC Restaurants Recognized by Wine Spectator
Three KC restaurants received the second highest honor of “Best Award of Excellence,” while 20 earned the third highest honor, “Award of Excellence.”  The restaurants honored were judged based on wine selection, and the wine’s ability to complement menu pricing and cuisine. Overland Park, Kansas easily holds the No. 1 spot in MyLife’s study of the 10 Best Midsize Cities to Raise Children. Two KC Restaurants on “Hottest BBQ Joints” List
Zagat ranked two Kansas City restaurants, Slaps BBQ and Q39, in its list of top 15 hottest BBQ joints across the U.S. The review notes “don’t miss” items at Slaps BBQ as the corn bake, which is “oozing with cheesy goodness,” and at Q39, the “competition worthy” barbeque plate. Zagat, July 2014

KU Hospital Ranks Among Top Grossing Nonprofit Hospitals
The University of Kansas Hospital ranked among American Hospital Directory’s list of the 50 top-grossing nonprofit hospitals in the U.S. The report was based off of cost reports from 2013, where KU Hospital reportedly billed its patients $3.96 billion. American Hospital Directory, July 2014

KC is a Leading Design City by Concentration
A study by CityLab using data provide by EMSI, a labor market data and research firm, ranked Kansas City as No. 8 in the nation for graphic designers and No. 13 for all designers. The rankings are based on the concentration of professionals per metro area. CityLab, July 2014

Most Intelligent Mid-Sized City in U.S. is Overland Park
A study conducted by the MyLife social media website ranked Overland Park, Kansas as the No. 1 Most Intelligent Mid-sized city in the U.S. The study ranked cities based on percentage of the population with a degree, public school ranking, number of libraries, lowest crime rate and more. Olathe, Kansas was also featured on the list at No. 13. MyLife, June 2014

Northwest Business Incubator Ranks No.21 Worldwide
In a survey of more than 300 incubators in 67 countries, the Dean L. Hubbard Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Northwest Missouri State University ranked No. 21, due to the incubators central location and access to expert guidance through the university. KC Among Coolest in the Nation
Kansas City ranked No. 14 in ranker.com’s list of America’s coolest cities, falling between Los Angeles and Miami. The list of 50 cities was ranked by a combination of user votes, listings and rankings. Ranker, June 2014

KC Bar makes Top 10 for Watching Futbal
Overland Park’s Futbal Club ranked as the No. 7 best bar in America to watch the FIFA World Cup by the Travel Channel. The restaurant features an “impressive” collection of futbal memorabilia and donates a portion of its sales to local soccer clubs. Travel Channel, June 2014

KC Futbal Fans Rank High in World Cup Viewership
According to ESPN, Kansas City ranked No. 16 in the nation for viewership of the U.S. vs. Brazil World Cup game on June 16. The national average of viewers sat at 6.3, KC had a rating of 7.4. The U.S. team’s FIFA World Cup kick-off was the most-viewed and highest rated soccer game on ESPN. ESPN, June 2014

Glacé makes List of Best Ice Creams in America
Christopher Elbow’s gelato venture, Glacé, was ranked on Thrillist’s list of 21 Best Ice Cream Shops in America. The chocolatier’s Spiced Dark Chocolate gelato is a “devilishly pure” dessert, earning Glacé a spot on the list. Thrillist, May 2014

Kansas Ranks No. 12 in the Nation in Potential Hydropower
According to a federal study, Kansas ranks No. 12 nationally in potential hydropower. The U.S. Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which led the study, found that harnessing the power of Kansas rivers could produce enough electricity to power every home in the state. Highspeedinternet.com ranked KC as the nation’s top destination for online entrepreneurs, based on the fostering atmosphere of companies like Hallmark and Sprint, the availability of Google Fiber and the city-sponsored initiative Launch KC. The University of Missouri-Kansas City was named by the Princeton Review as one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in North America. World’s Tallest Waterslide Resides in KC
Guinness Book of World Records judge declares Verrückt at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas the tallest waterslide in the world. The 168 ft. 7 inch waterslide at Schlitterbahn Kansas City reaches higher than Niagara Falls. Verrückt is German for “insane.” Schlitterbahn News, April 2014

SpareFoot’s list of America’s Six Fastest-Growing On-the-Rise Startup Hubs ranks Kansas City as No.5. Topeka-Based PT’s Coffee is the No. 9 Best Coffee Shop in the Nation
According to the Daily Meal, PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. from Topeka tops the list of the 50 best coffee shops in the nation. The online publication cited the local roaster’s dedication to serving excellent quality coffee and espresso for the ranking. PT’s was also named 2009 Roaster of the Year by Roaster Magazine. Kansas City Is the No. 14 Most-Attractive Location for Migrating Millennials
According to the Brookings Institution, Kansas City ranks No. 14 the nation for recruiting Millennials, surpassing both New York and Chicago. The study calculated the net migration of young professionals in two 3-year periods in the last seven years. The Brookings Institution, April 2014

Kansas is No. 3 in Highest Wind Energy Percentage
The American Wind Energy Association released a report that found Kansas to be the No. 3 state in the nation for  wind energy produced as a percentage of all electricity generated. The national report also found that Kansas moved up to No. 8 among states in the amount of installed wind energy capacity and No. 6 in the total amount of electricity generated in 2013. Missouri Tops List for Tech Job Creation
For the second year in a row, Missouri tops the national list of states creating the most technology jobs. The survey, created by Dice.com, shows that Missouri added 2,700 tech positions last year, edging out Massachusetts, Illinois and Texas with a growth of 8 percent. The Flint Hills of Kansas have been named as one of the seven most-stunning places to watch a sunset in the world, according to Green Landscapes. Using data collected by the Kauffman Foundation, Kansas is the No. 17 most-innovative state. The Kill Devil Club Makes ‘Best New Bar in U.S.’ List
The Kill Devil Club, in KC’s Power & Light District, was named Food and Wine magazine’s “Best New Bar in the U.S.” The high-end rum bar is a project of internationally-recognized mixologist Ryan Maybee, a KC native.
