More than $9 billion is currently being invested in the Kansas City region. The Downtown Council reports that since 2000, more than $4 billion has been invested in downtown, Kansas City, Mo., alone. Description: The first mixed-use development of its kind in Johnson County, Kan., Park Place will contain 125,000 square feet of retail space designed to look like a traditional Main Street. Description: Adding 165,000 square feet, or the equivalent of 67-story skyscraper laying on its side, the Nelson-Atkin’s new Bloch Building is a work of art itself. The addition exists mainly underground with five transparent glass structures emerging into the museum’s sculpture park. The expansion increases the museum’s space by a third and will house a new entry lobby, library, café and sculpture park. The $7.4 million Ford Learning Center is also a new addition to the museum.
